Here the Mountains Whisper
Battle of Whiskers
The Battle of Whiskers was the culmination of a skirmishing conflict between the Iron Dwarves and the Daals which saw the death of the Fjordlord Dun Dorash but an eventual rally and victory for the dwarves over the elves. Support from dwarvens archers in fishing boats moving up the Whisker River is cited as one major decideding factor in the battle along with dwarven boxing tactics which pressed the well equipped but under-disciplined Daals against the river where many drowned before the rest surrendered.
Dun Dorash, slowed by old age and facing a more limber and agile opponent, was struck down before the final push to victory. It is said his final shout of defiance shook the snows from the Thunder Peaks, causing an avalanche which blanketed the low-lying areas.
The Mountain Whisper was erected on the spot of his death, symbolizing his essence merging with the earth, and it was speculated that his body was actually encased inside the statue itself. This was revealed to be untrue when it was sundered and was one of the many factors contributing the dwarves’ internal crisis.
